Agreement between IFAP and IICA |
General Agreement for Technical Cooperation between the International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) |
IFAP signed and important agreement with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), specialized agency for agriculture of the Inter-American System. Its purposes are to encourage, promote and support the efforts of its Member States to achieve agricultural development and rural well-being.
The technical cooperation priorities set by IICA are: Promoting trade and the competitiveness of agribusinesses, Promoting the development of rural communities based on a territorial approach, Promoting the introduction of technology and innovation for the modernization of agriculture and rural development, Promoting the sustainable management of natural resources and the environment, and Promoting agricultural health and food safety.
Both institutions recognize the existence of areas of common interest in which joint work could contribute both to the achievement of their individual objectives and to the strengthening of cooperation among the countries of the Latin American region.
Combined, complementary efforts by IFAP and IICA could benefit the members of IFAP and make a more effective contribution to agricultural and rural development in IICA’s Member States than could be achieved by the separate and independent actions of each. |
Mr. David King, Secretary General of IFAP and Dr. James Butler Deputy, Director General of IICA |
IICA and IFAP agreed to complement efforts, with a view to facilitating the attainment of the objectives of the institutions involved, by making more efficient use of available resources, endeavoring to increase the technical and material capabilities of both organizations for the benefit of agricultural producers at the national and regional levels, with special emphasis on the sociocultural aspects of the agricultural sector and aspects that affect the profitability of production and competitiveness, within a framework of sustainability of natural resources and respect for the environment.
