IFAD: Keynote address by the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Mr. Lennart Båge, on the theme “Empowering farmers for diversity, for sustainability, for health, for peace.”

UNCCD: Presentation by the Executive Secretary of the UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification), Hama Arba Diallo, on “Combating desertification: a food security issue for farmers, during the session on International Year of Deserts and Desertification

In his speech, the Executive Secreatary reiterated the support of the UNCCD Secretariat to take the necessary measures to support farmers’ and their organizations in affected countries.

WTO: Address by the Director General of the World Trade Orgnanisation, Mr. Pascal Lamy, during the session on Agriculture and WTO trade negotiations.“

Netherlands: Address by the Dutch Minister for Cooperation Development, Ms. Agnes van Ardenne-van der Hoeven,

"The pebble that started the landslide", during the session on Public-private partnerships for sustainable agricultural development. 

The Minister announced during her presentation that, in the next four years, the Netherlands will scale up its support to farmers’ organisations in poor countries – through IFAP, AgriCord and Agriterra – to a total of fifty million euros. "A strong network of agricultural organisations, including IFAP, AgriCord, Agriterra and the Dutch platform AgriProFocus will be entrusted with the implementation of this ambitious programme" said the Minister.
